Our
Story

The "Maestros" Conducting Workshop came to life as a collaboration between Edgar Rubio and Steve Rivero in the fall of 2015.  After a conversation about how to bring this to South Florida, we shifted to who should be the college conductor.  Having just come to the University of Miami, and if you ever met him, the obvious and only choice was Rob Carnochan.  In the summer of 2016, Maestros had its first workshop with over 30 conductors.  From day one, the goal of this workshop has been to create an environment where band directors of all ages and levels of experience can come and work on their conducting technique in a safe space that fosters growth.  When we came up with the name "Maestros" for the workshop, we turned to the roots of our community.  Since we are a South Florida based workshop we decided to use the Spanish version of Teacher and we arrived at "Maestros".

Rob's sudden passing in the fall of 2024 has left a deep whole in our hearts.  We miss him every day, but we will keep the music going on in your honor "Maestro".
